As 2014 concludes, we’ve seen bed bug infestations evolve into a year-round problem in New York and New Jersey, and the trade shows we attend tell us the problem continues to spread nationally. Cities and states that didn’t have bed bug inspection teams 5 years ago now have them. The best pest control companies in the region are doing everything they can to keep up with bed bugs’ ability to adapt to their surroundings, which includes their having an immunity to many pesticides that are making their elimination tougher and tougher. Infestations are speading, and we saw some of our worst infestations yet in 2014.
At the same time, the majority of the inspections we performed in 2014 were negative for bed bugs, meaning that our K9 didn’t alert to a live bed bug presence, and, no live bed bugs were visually found. We’re happy to say that many of the families and businesses we serviced in 2014 didn’t need to hire a pest control company to treat a problem that didn’t exist, and those customers all gained immediate peace of mind as well.
We’ve been front and center since the bed bug epidemic took hold, and are in our 8th consecutive year of helping families and businesses identify & address possible bed bug infestations. The principles we continue to believe best serve the public, in regard to bed bugs, are:
* Unexplained bites on the body, especially bites you’ve woken up with, remains a good enough reason to believe you might have a bed bug problem.
* Early detection usually means you’ll get rid of a bed bug problem much more quickly.
* Excess clutter and not acting quickly usually means a bed bug problem will be much more difficult to get rid of.
As for the the reasons we’re asked to perform bed bug inspections, they haven’t changed much over the years either. Among the common reasons are:
“A bed bug was found at my job, and I just want to make sure nothing found its way home with me.”
“One of our employees told us they have a bed bug problem at home, and we want to make sure everything’s ok at the office.”
“We took a vacation, and since we returned home, we’ve been noticing bites we didn’t have before.”
“I just heard that the commute I take to and from work reported a bed bug problem.”
In 2015, we’re expecting the bed bug problem to maintain the same level of intensity as it did in 2013 and 2014, and we can only hope that any one who suspects they may have a bed bug problem takes quick action. New York City particularly has been in a problem where there are just far too many ways you can accidentally bring a bed bug(s) home with you, or wind up with them at work.
Our pledge to our customers, and the trust we’ve gained from them, is that our non-vested interest approach continues to serve their best interest. “Do I have bed bugs or not?” That straight-forward approach is something we think our customers have appreciated, and we welcome the opportunity to answer your questions, or service your home or business, at any time.
